Why I Love Summer in South Florida

I love summer in South Florida because of the rainy season storms. The clouds are magnificent both in the morning and in the afternoon. I definitely don't want hurricanes to come, and summer in South Florida coincides with hurricane season - that part I don't like. But the clouds are beautiful, the afternoon storms sometimes intense, but not damaging. We rarely get tornadoes or wind damage - just a good old fashioned thunder storm about once a day in the afternoon/evening. I love to be inside my house when we get these storms - it feels so cozy and safe. When we get thunderstorms at night, that is best. Snug in bed I can hear the rain on the roof.

Now I don't like TOO much wind and I don't want SO much lightning that the power goes off - because then we have no A/C and THAT is AWFUL in the summer down here. So - just the right amount of rain and clouds and thunder - and I'm happy - not to mention the beautiful and majestic clouds.

Here is what I saw this morning on the way to work - the clouds were out over the ocean, towering up into the sky:
I'm facing east in the morning, but in the afternoon, the clouds begin to come from the west, from over the hot and steamy Everglades:

I love the storm seasons here also...as long as they don't get too intense ;)

When I first moved here, I was amazed at the clouds. They frightened me at first, but then I used to try to keep score on what day I had seen the absolute most threatening, black clouds ever.....

The storms are great. I wish we'd get more of them! We sure need the water.

About your comment on my blog about gardening down here...they say we are past the time for tomatoes, but mine are still doing fine. I really don't know what grows the best here in the summer. I should pay more attention to the fields I pass on my way to work and see what the farmers are starting to grow now!

Thanks for stopping by my blog!
